Bones of the Lip

The old man we were studying
began speaking of his “god”;
we don’t need his faith-
we are going to abort his child.

But the old man dies,
and yet the child lives
and when it is born,
I morbidly wondered
if the abomination in the womb
would suckle it’s dead father/mother’s penis . . .

For five days the corpse was still with smell
except for the bloated abdomen which pulsed with life;
and on the sixth day
the child came . . .

“My dear, I can still hear the thing scream,
and mew and suck the blood from my three companions . . .
and I hid fast away and lost my senses . . .
I watched it comb their meat with its talons
and it made a web of their intestines . . .
And here I am . . . safely tucked away.
I laugh, I cry . . .
and the man in the next cell
screams and gibbers of Vampyres;
I laugh, I cry . . .
and I believe him;
for I saw the thing’s face-
the bones of the lip!
